My name is Paul Glenshaw.

I am an artist, filmmaker, author and educator with more than 25 years' experience working across disciplines in the arts, history, and sciences.

I am based in the Washington DC area. Clients include museums, magazines, foundations, government, universities, and arts organizations locally and around the country. In addition to art, writing, films, and education, projects include primary research, exhibit design and content, photography, fundraising, and media production.

  • Filmmaker:
    Co-director, co-producer, co-writer The Lafayette Escadrille, a documentary film about the young Americans who risked everything to volunteer for France in World War I. Coming to Public Television Fall 2021!

    Co-creator The Seven Tones Project, an open, collaborative initiative begun during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic to pair musicians and filmmakers to make short films based on the music of Duke Ellington. Co-producer: Anacostia Delta - The Legacy of DC's TeleMasters a documentary film about the great players of Washington DC.
    Co producer, co-writer, Barnstorming, an award winning documentary about the unexpected friendship created when two pilots landed in a farmer's field. Aired nationally on PBS, 2009-2012.

  • Educator:
    Online Lecturer and Tour Leader, Smithsonian Associates. Lecture series includes Art+History, which looks in depth at the historical context for the creation of individual works of art. Other tours and lectures feature aviation history subjects.
    Art Instructor, Smithsonian Institution. I teach drawing: perspective, object drawing, drawing in museums.
    STEM and STEAM projects for Fairfax County Public Schools, Jazz at Lincoln Center

  • Author:
    Regular contributor, Air & Space Smithsonian magazine. Subjects cover the full range of aviation history.
    Author, To Swing Through the Sky. A new work for theater commissioned by George Mason University about the surprising twin histories of jazz and powered flight. Performed in 2016 and 2017 by the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra.
